At age 10, Jeff began his professional drumming career as a fill-in for his high school aged brother’s rock band at a hometown gig in North Carolina.  Before graduating elementary school, Jeff was playing snare drum in the high school marching band and was “hooked on drums.” By age 14, Jeff was traveling regularly on weekends across NC (particularly to country clubs in the Raleigh and Fayetteville areas) playing gigs with his high school band director’s jazz quintet.  In high school he attained “All-State Band” honors all 4 years and was voted by his peers as “Most Talented” in his senior year.  more...
Jeff immediately followed high school with a summer semester at Berklee College of Music in Boston where his eyes and ears were opened to the most notable jazz and contemporary musicians in the world.  Upon returning to N.C., Jeff performed briefly with the Charlotte Symphony while studying music and percussion at Wingate University.
Then Jeff turned again to exploring music outside the borders of North Carolina so he joined the armed forces music program where he went on to complete all three courses offered by the Naval School of Music in Norfolk VA (totaling 2 more years of extraordinary music study).  In his final year there, Jeff enjoyed the privilege to personally study with Mark Adams, the most sought-after performing drummer in Las Vegas today (www.markadamsdrumsinlasvegas.com).
During Jeff’s nine year tenure in the Marine music program, he traveled millions of miles and performed in 46 states and 3 foreign countries for everything from U.S. State Department functions for Presidents and foreign dignitaries, the U.S. Bicentennial Celebration (and Tall Ships Regalia in NYC Harbor, 1976), a World’s Fair (New Orleans, 1984), dozens of Mardi Gras Parades, Rose Bowl Parades, to local festivals, big band jazz concerts, rock concerts, and everything-in-between.
Jeff left the military music program to complete his music degree with a B.A. in Percussion Performance from the University of New Orleans.  During this time, Jeff performed on piano with a very talented group of musicians on Bourbon Street to include notables such as Tom Herauf, saxophone, New Orleans, currently with “Red, Hot and Blues,” and Leon Joyce, Jr., drums, Chicago, currently with legendary jazz  pianist, Ramsey Lewis.
Today, Jeff has rekindled his life long love and passion for the artistry of percussion and joy of music and is fully engaged in performing, arranging and composing with Outta the Blue.
